Honey in the Sun

I recently picked up this lovely straw hat at target for under $15 and it has been one of my best summer purchases yet to date. As I am quickly approaching my 30s, proper skin care is and has been on the top of my priority list for some time now. I love the beautiful sun, but I do not love how too much of it is harmful for the skin. As much I sometimes wish I had a deep golden brown tan, I am quite content with the fact that I look younger than I am and I would like to keep it that way, so...
I can thank my mom for good genes, my spf for good protection, and big floppy hats like this for keeping those harmful rays off my face.

A Minty Flower by the Water

It was so incredibly beautiful outside today...not too hot, the sky was as blue as could be and there was a great breeze going on. So great that it made this shoot nearly impossible as my skirt and blazer wouldn't stay put. Some sunbathers and tennis players in the park almost got a free show as the wind was carrying me (and my skirt) away...oops!
Anyways, I am really taken with the color mint right now. It's retro and delicious. I have always been partial to this color as it is the same as my favorite kind of ice cream flavor (isn't it always about food)? So...today I mixed a minty floral skirt with some navy nautical stripes and voila, this was the result:

Oh the Days of Candyland and Rainbow Brite

Today I was in the mood for something different. I was feeling compelled to go against the grain and not do a typical pretty feminine dress post. Believe it or not, I do wear more than just dresses and today was one of those days. I was feeling so inspired by my younger days when my mom used to dress me up in eyelet and big bows during the summertime. I loved those days. I loved playing Candyland with my cousins and watching Rainbow Brite on Saturday morning cartoons. Everything seemed so much brighter, more simple, and innocent then. So with that, I put together this silly little ensemble that is playful, quirky, and somewhat childlike.

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

Happy Monday...yeah, I know, I know...what's so happy about it? The work week begins again. One thing I am excited about though is the new Arcade Fire album coming out in August. :-) Here's one of the songs from their upcoming release. Enjoy and may it take your Monday blues away.

Nothing to Get Hung About

...Strawberry Fields Forever. Merry Friday lovelies! I was feeling real inspired by one of my favorite Beatles songs today. I just kinda woke up with it stuck in my head. It's a dreamy and whimsical sort of song. When I was young I used to close my eyes and picture how this world of strawberry fields would look. I would get lost in the lyrics and beauty of the imagery presented. Alas, this is how I interpreted it with my outfit.

Burning Through the Rainbow

My goodness was today ever a hot one! Because it was so bloody hot, it was kinda a lax and lazy sort of day. I was tired due to lack of sleep and everything seem to be moving in slow-mo. Argh, Friday couldn't be here soon enough. Luckily my only boost was getting a stellar end of the year evaluation from my boss. Score! (Did I really just say that?) I seriously needed that to make it to 4:00.
So 4:00 finally came around and the day ended with dinner at The Pizza Grille with the fam. This is what I wore:

I'm not a huge fan of anything sleeveless (on me at least) but I just loved this little chambray number so much, it didn't really matter to me. The lacy vintage inspired detailing down the front had me at hello. Once the night cooled off a bit, I threw my jean jacket over this and I liked the look much better, but there was just no chance I was putting a jacket on in this 90 degree weather.

I can never have enough headbands. Seriously, it's an addiction and I don't think a day goes by when I am not wearing something on my head. This particular one is just so unique. I love the mix of fabric, feathers, flowers, and little buttons that adorn it.

A hop, skip, and a jump in my clogs and...off to dinner I go.

Feathers and Cream

Ok, so I realized that I posted this outfit once before way back when I was preggo, but I wanted to feature it once again to show how it still works for me. This dress is amazing, so pretty and flowy and uber comfortable. Better yet, it has taken me through all four seasons and through a pregnancy - gotta love pieces like that.

Last time I wore it, I cinched the waist with a belt, however with the hot weather it's much more light and airy without.

I swear this pendant was made for this dress. The blue goes perfectly with the small flowers in the dress and they both exude that vintage flair.

These printed tights are whimsical and slightly quirky. I love them just for that.

Shout Out Louds - "Tonight I Have to Leave It" Merge Records

Happy Hump Day Lovelies! Gosh am I glad this week is half over and the weekend is on the horizon. Today has kinda been a drab day at work so far and luckily this happy little song has been stuck in my head, bringing a smile to my face. I love the Shout Out Louds, even though they are kinda like the Swedish version of the cure and Adam Olenius' voice sounds eerily similar to Robert Smith's. Nonetheless, their third album, "Work", was released in February of this year and it's indie pop goodness but my favorite song from them is still "Tonight I Have to Leave It" back from 2007. I hope it brings a smile to your face as well.

Flowers on the Hillside Bloomin Crazy, Crickets Talking Back and Forth in Rhyme

Quick outfit post today - I purchased this dress last summer because I loved the beautiful blue/green tones of it. I'm pretty much so a sucker for anything in these cool hues. I was excited to put it on yet again because my lil sister showed me this supermarkethq site where I was able to customize a matching flower headband for the dress. How fun! Check this site out - it has tons of great stuff from indie designers. If I wasn't watching my wallet, I would probably be in big trouble as I found myselft getting lost in all the great arts and accessories they have on this site.

I Heart: Retrospective Romper

How dear is this romper from Modcloth? I'm completely in love with the black on black lace and the puff sleeves. It's dainty and sweet yet somehow glamorous at the same time. What's not to love?

The Simple Heart Will be Prized Again

I want to begin this post by wishing a "Happy Father's Day" to all the dads out there. I have been incredibly blessed with an awesome husband and an amazing Father, so this day was dedicated to celebrating them.
Before, I show you my outfit post for the day, I wanted to post a few pics I took of my husband and son and also one with my Father. I couldn't be more grateful for each of them. They all mean the world to me.

Al is the best daddy ever to our son Keane. I am so proud of you and consider myself so lucky to be your wife.

The three men in my life. I love you all so dearly.

Lastly, kinda a quick outfit post today but this is my version of mixing florals and stripes together. What do you think? I love how the bright, summery colors of the bow in my hair tie in with green of the dress.

Give Me Wind Cross My Face

Today was incredibly lovely outside so my hubby, son, and I spent the afternoon at a nearby park.

This was my first attempt at wearing a romper. This one looks more like a dress but is really shorts underneath. I needed to ease my way into romper land, so this was perfect for me. I always wanted a romper (come one, they are so cute), but was too afraid to wear one since I am short and curvy. I'm really loving the comfort and playfulness of it though, so who knows, maybe there will be more in my future.

This heart shaped locket bracelet was a special gift given to me from my mother-in-law for my very first Mother's day as a Mommy. It has my son's name engraved onto the heart.

Sitting on the hill watching the ducks swim by.

I just had to venture down to the water's edge to get a closer look.

So sweet to see this group of ducks stick together.

My son Keane, enjoyed the park too. There's nothing like seeing a smile on his face.

The Ground Beneath Their Feet is a Nautically Mapped Sheet

I finally decided to take a break from my usual array of floral dresses. This time I ventured over to the wonderful world of stripes for a more nautical inspired outfit inspired by the song "Mansard Roof" by Vampire Weekend. I'm always nervous about wearing stripes, especially with carrying extra baby weight and also with being on the more chesty/curvy side. Problem solved: This little navy blazer did the trick and took the focus away from my "problem areas". The blazer is great because it doesn't feel like a typical structured blazer. It's much softer and more cardigan like, making it perfect for a late afternoon stroll by the lake. What better than to top it off with a bright red headscarf I tied into an oversized bow and a cute anchor pendant for around my neck. Ahoy there Matey!

The Blossoms on the Trees Stir Up the Honeybees

Lately the most essential piece in my wardrobe has been my little black blazer. It just seems to look perfect over everything. I've kinda gone on a stint of throwing it over my floral dresses, which works really well for me while I'm at the office. Speaking of floral dresses (yet again), I particularly love the contrast of the pale yellow of this one against the black blazer and black tights. The saddle shoes and flower headband are the perfect marriage to top off my preppy english rose sort of look.
